LAUSD Security Masterplan Regions 1 & 3
AE3 is spearheading a comprehensive, multidisciplinary effort to deliver the Regional Access Hardware & Security Program, designed to enhance campus safety and address active shooter preparedness. At the heart of the initiative is the replacement of hardware on over 2,500 doors across 150 buildings on six campuses. The new hardware will feature advanced remote lockdown capabilities, activated by law enforcement, alongside local lockdown functionality, empowering occupants to secure individual classrooms, offices, and other spaces during an emergency.
However, the DSA required compliance with the latest two code cycles, preventing a waiver for associated building modifications. This transformed the project from a straightforward hardware upgrade into a broader evaluation of campus accessibility. The assessment includes paths of travel and restroom cores, leading to a more extensive review of the overall condition of campus facilities. AE3 is conducting a detailed evaluation of the building envelopes, structural systems, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) infrastructure. This analysis includes cost modeling to determine the viability of repairing versus replacing aging facilities.
While advancing the security upgrade designs, AE3 is simultaneously developing a comprehensive strategy to address additional deficiencies. This includes identifying specific scopes of work for future design teams and laying the groundwork for a phased approach to modernize and secure the campus effectively.
