Los Rios Community College District, American River College Veteran’s Resource Center
The new Veterans Resource Center interior renovation project transforms roughly 2,500 sf of existing residual interior office space at the American River College into an appropriate, modern, and functional space well suited to serve and honor our Veterans. In addition to the interior office, a new 600 sf private patio was developed to serve the office space. The Veterans Resource Center office is dedicated to supporting veterans and their dependents in the transition to higher education. This population has a special set of needs as they move from the structure and support of the US armed forces to civilian and student life.
To help serve the veterans on campus, the program of the center includes a reception, advising offices, a computer lab, as well as a lounge to serve as a gathering space for veterans on campus. The unique desires of this set of users have driven the design to be open, inclusive, and welcoming. Creating a sense of privacy and comfort for students within. This project serves to reposition the VRC as a leading on-site campus resource for this important community that will serve for many years to come.
