Oakland Unified School District, Modernization Program

Oakland Unified School District, Modernization Program

The Oakland Unified School District serves a population of nearly 50,000 students, many in socio-economically challenged areas. The District’s nearly 80 facilities average over 60 years in age. In 2010, the community passed a $435M bond to modernize and replace many of these buildings. They ranged from simple capacity augmentation and renovation to outright replacement. In all cases, we worked with facilities staff to prioritize project goals within a very limited budget, with an emphasis on the reduction of life-cycle costs.

Cole Elementary School Portable Replacement: Addition of new portable classroom and restroom facility, site parking improvements, 200-foot trenching to tie in building to existing campus, and fire alarm/intrusion/data upgrades.

Webster Elementary School Kitchen Remodel: Build-out of a 10,000 SF cafeteria in an existing school building. Project included kitchen, food prep, cold room/storage area, as well as all necessary MEP improvements. Careful attention was made to equipment selection within an available energy budget.
