College of Alameda Aviation Complex Replacement
AE3 is designing the new College of Alameda Aviation Sub-Campus, a two-acre facility located at Oakland International Airport within close proximity to the main campus. Developed to support the college’s expanding aviation programs, including FAA mechanics, avionics, and related technical disciplines, the project modernizes a 1970s hangar through a full interior renovation and exterior reskin, and replaces an adjacent 1960s structure with a new ground-up building. Funded through federal and state grants, the design includes two high-bay hangar spaces for airframe and power plant instruction, surrounded by upgraded labs and classrooms. The site is being reconfigured to optimize parking and aircraft storage, and AE3 coordinated a new half-mile fire, water, and sanitary sewer connection with the Port of Oakland. Because the campus lies within a floodplain, the new building incorporates dry flood-proofing strategies to create a watertight envelope up to 10 feet above grade.
