College of Alameda Aviation Complex Replacement
AE3 is designing the new College of Alameda Aviation Sub Campus located on 2 acres of land at Oakland International Airport within 2 miles of the campus. The Complex is designed to accommodate a growing aviation curriculum that includes an FAA mechanics, avionic and other support programs. The project will renovate the interior and reskin an existing 1970’s era hangar building,.
An existing 1960’s era structure will be replaced with a new ground-up building. Funded by a combination of federal and state grant sources, the overall design will accommodate two “high bay” hangar spaces for airframe and power plant operations, ringed by supporting modernized labs and classrooms. The site will be reconfigured to maximize parking and aircraft storage, and AE3 negotiated a new half-mile fire, water and sanitary sewer connection with the Port of Oakland.
Located in a flood plain, the new building will incorporate “dry flood-proofing” measures that will create a watertight building envelope up to 10’ above grade.
